Hi everyone! I’m excited to bring you reviews for Indie Pickup for January. This is my first time blogging for such a large amount of items, so I hope I don’t screw it up!
*These items were provided to me as press samples but the reviews are honest and my own opinion.
If you’ve never heard of Indie Pickup, let me describe it. Its a fun way to shop for your favorite indie/handmade items. All the makers have a theme every month, which is nominated and voted on by customers, you get to order from all the makers during a 4 day window, this is a pre-order so all the makers will send their items to the shipping location and then they get sent to the customers. It’s a 2-3 week turnaround but it’s a great way to find new brands and great products. It’s the sister site to Polish Pickup.
Check out the website http://www.indiepickup.com and join the Facebook group for sneak peeks on all the items at https://m.facebook.com/groups/186396792157058.
When you are done looking at all of the stuff, leave me a comment below and tell me what is on your wishlist.
I don’t have all of the items that will be sold this month, but I hope you enjoy looking at what I was sent to review. I have sorted the items by category for easier viewing.

Rachel’s notes: This bath bomb smells of my favorite wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s the perfect thing for a relaxing bath with candles and wine! It is super rich and frothy. After I drained the tub it looked like I murdered the Pink Panther but it easily wiped clean, I found that Dawn blue dish soap worked best and knocked it out and left the tub sparkly! The little light up party starts when the bath bomb dissolves. You can reuse it later, just dry the little nodes on the bottom and they will reactivate when it’s wet again.

It had good pigment and shimmer when I swatched it on my hand and I swirled my brush around the colors and blended it onto my cheeks, nose, forehead and jaw line. As I moved my face in the sunlight, you could see the shimmer and it made me look glowy. I have used this a lot as a finishing touch to my look and it just gives my face that perfect glow. This gloss has the perfect feel! It has a shine but it is not sticky! It’s a dry shine, if that makes sense. It’s the perfect mix of matte and gloss. If you have not tried it, grab one! If you have trouble with patchy application, try dabbing it on after your first swipes. It will give you a little extra coverage to get that perfect look. Check out the shimmer it has in this video.

Heaven Scent Treasure Candles – Roll On Perfume – Champagne Pomegranate

Description: A roll on perfume. It is colored with pink mica (which doesn’t leave any color behind once rubbed into skin, but it leaves a faint blush color when first applied, because Persephone, in the comics, Goddess of Spring, is a delightful pink color. It is a delightful scent that packs a punch!
It has top notes of grapefruit, lemon, orange and bubbly notes.
It has mid notes of pomegranate, strawberries and raspberries.
It has a base note of champagne.
Ingredients: Jojoba Oil, Fragrance Oil and a Hot Pink Mica
Weight/Packaging: 5ML bottle with a roller ball
Price: $9 Cap: None
Rachel’s Notes: I absolutely love this scent! It definitely has a berry scent to it and I did catch the champagne notes at the end. My friend caught a blueberry scent which isn’t in there but I’m guessing that’s the pomegranate. I love the convenience of a roll on perfume because sprays can be overwhelming for people with sensitive noses. It’s a subtle little scent that doesn’t extend outside your personal bubble.
Matterhorn – Beard and Hair Care Oil – Yggdrasil
Description: A blend of Avocado, Golden Jojoba and almond oils with a mysterious scent. Featuring Amber, frankincense, woodlands, sugar and orchid.
Ingredients: Avocado oil, Golden Jojoba oil, Almond oil. Essential oils. Fragrance oils.
Weight/Packaging: 3.5 oz jar with dropper
Price: $13 Cap: None
Rachel’s Notes: When I first got this product I was like, what in the world am I going to do with beard oil?? When I talked to Meagan, she said it could also be used as a hair oil…hmmm ok, I have super fine hair but I do use a 10-in-1 hair oil treatment that helps with my fly aways, so let’s see how this does. I used a little blue Dawn in my hair before to get rid of some buildup I had, and shampooed and conditioned as usual (I use Renpure’s coconut line) I let my hair air dry halfway, then put a few drops in my palm and rubbed it in the bottom parts of my hair and blow dried my hair as usual. OH MY GOSH I was playing with my hair and touching it all day! It had amazing volume and was silky smooth, my friend Josh aka my model below asked if I flat ironed it and I hadn’t, but if I had it would have been even smoother! It still looked good as I went to bed, usually my hair gets a flat look through the day. I kept making my husband and daughter touch my hair all day!
Here’s what my beard model Josh had to say. “It was very nice and lightweight. The sent was citrusy and not overwhelming almost like a summer sent! The scent lasted a few hours definitely in the stash. Hours later and still soft and shining!” He had a collection of beard and facial hair products and definitely was impressed with this oil. His doggies ran to give him kisses when he got home, puppy approved? I think so!!
Off the Hook Creations – Crochet Snake
Inspiration: A snake inspired by Medusa’s hair.

Ingredients: acrylic yarn, poly-fil, pipe cleaner
Weight/Packaging: 0.2 oz wrapped in a small Ziploc bag
Price: $3.50 Cap: 50
Rachel’s Notes: This little dude is the cutest! I love how he stays where you bend him so you can wrap him around things. (I named mine Monty the Python) I know several friends who would love one of these!
Fangirl Polish – Norse Mythology Water Slide Nail Decals
Inspiration: Norse Mythology
Description: An exclusive IPU water slide nail decal sheet featuring 70 images representing Norse symbols that played an important role in Viking culture, as well as the Runic alphabet, known as the Futhark.
These water slide decals are transparent, therefore they tend to look best on light shades of polish.
Instructions included with order.
Ingredients: water slide decal paper; ink
Weight/Packaging: 1 oz
Price: $4 Cap: 30
Rachel’s Notes: I’m all about researching the meaning behind things so I looked up the symbols. I came up with a neat little inspirational message with the symbols because there is more joy in giving than in receiving. I’m not very experienced with using water decals so I was nervous when trying these out. I followed the little instruction guide and they came out great. I used warm water which seemed to help a lot and I held it under the water for about 40 seconds and used my lint free nail wipes to pat them on the nail to remove water and air bubbles.
Kinsmade – Stamping plate – The Stuff of Legends
Inspiration: Sasquash, Jack-a-lope and other legendary creatures
Description: 9.5cm x 9.5cm acrylic stamping plate – Limited Edition

Rachel’s Notes: This is my first acrylic stamping plate and I did use acetone to clean it. I found that I didn’t need to scrape hard at all like I do with metal plates. I was able to pickup the images with my Lantern & Wren Simply Silver Stamper and see where I was placing them on the nail.
Lantern & Wren- Flight of Fantasy stamping plate

Vibrant Vinyls – Sticky base coat – Stupid Cupid
Description: Exclusive scent of Get A Grip sticky base coat. ‘Stupid Cupid’ – An intoxicating, irresistible blend of orange, raspberry, lime, and French vanilla. Scent will appear once fully dry.
Ingredients: Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Adipic Acid / Neopentyl Glycol / Trimellitic Anhydride Copolymer, Benzophenone-3, Trimethylpentanediyl Dibenzoate, Polyvinyl Butyral, D&C Violet #2, D&C Yellow #11, FD&C Blue #1, Fragrance Oil
Weight/Packaging: 3 oz
Price: $7 Cap: 150
Rachel’s notes: I was super excited to try this brand’s base coat as I’ve heard great things. I first noticed that the brush was very nice, I took a macro brush shot, it didn’t bump the sides of my nails and it flowed easily and smoothly over the nail. The formula was thin enough so that it wasn’t hard to apply to the nail and self leveled very nicely. It dried by the time I had done all 10 fingers. The scent was absolutely delicious. It was citrusy, more orange and a very light note of orange. It is like a creamy orange sherbet on your nails. I didn’t get to wear this long enough to do a wear test but I will try and remember to come back and add a note in when I do.
Chirality – Cuticle Oil – Soften Your Tips
Description: Soften Your Tips is a Nourishing Cuticle Oil that was formulated with only the most skin-loving oils. It has been handcrafted to be super nourishing and will sink into your skin quickly without being greasy. Packaged in an elegant tube with a doe foot wand for easy application.

Soften Your Tips leads with Jojoba oil which is a liquid wax that has small molecules that closely resembles our own natural oils. This allows it to actually penetrate your skin and nails deeply to nourish and repair from within. Vitamin E is then added as a boost of skin conditioner and antioxidant. No preservatives added.
Vegan | Phthlate & Cruelty Free

Apricot Kernel Oil- A lightweight oil that is excellent for all skin types, but particularly skin-loving for dry sensitive skin. It is high in Oleic Acid, Linoleic Acid, and Vitamin A. Very moisturizing and has antioxidant properties.

Vitamin E Acetate- A moisturizing skin conditioner. It is an antioxidant and a skin protectant. Contains skin healing properties that help to improve dry skin.
Weight/Packaging: 12 ml with doefoot applicator
Price: $9 Cap: 50
Rachel’s Notes: This is my first time trying this brand of nail oil, I am very impressed with the packaging. I love the doefoot applicators personally because they are great for massaging the cuticle area and pushing the cuticle. They also fit nicely under the free edge so that oil gets under the tip of the nail. The oil is very light and not thick, it absorbs super quick and leaves a nice sheen on the skin. The scent is sooo yummy! It’s like a buttercream cupcake with a hint of strawberry. It isn’t overwhelming but when I move my hand I get a nice scent from my hand. I would feel like this scent would be appealing to most people.
Cuticula – Confection Nail Fortifier
Description: Use this product as many times as you’d like throughout the day. Instructions: Tap your finger lightly into the cream and ever so slightly dab each nail with the product. Rub the product into each nail and cuticle until you no longer see the cream. I like to rub it all through my hands after rubbing it into the skin. You should be left with moisturized nails and cuticles. Scent is Dragonfruit. This scent is so sweet and fruity. It’s almost reminiscent of candy.
Ingredients: Water, Aloe Vera Juice, MSM, Rosehip Seed Oil, Kelp Extract, Neem Extract, Lanolin, Vegetable Glycerin, Jojoba, Avocado Oil, Almond Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Bees Wax, Castor, Rosemary Extract, DL Panthenol, Wheat Germ Oil, Allantoin, Vegetable Stearic Acid, Emulsifying Wax, Silver Dihydrogen Citrate, Citric Acid, Fragrance.
Weight/Packaging: 2 oz
Price: $6.50 Cap: None
Rachel’s notes: This stuff smelled like delicious fruity sweetness, heaven, it smelled like heaven! I love fruit scented things to begin with. It is perfect for swatchers because it doesn’t leave a greasy shiny look on your skin. It is super silky and you only need a little bit. I love how it gets in the cuticle area and you can massage it into the skin. It’s a good mix between a lotion and a nail oil. I can’t wait to see how this works over a longer period of time.
Heather’s Hues – Tone it Down! acetone additive
Inspiration: Inspired by the goddess Diana
Description: Tone it Down! acetone additive saves your nails and cuticles from the dreadful dry-out caused by acetone polish remover! Inspired by the Goddess Diana, the scent is named “Wild Woman” and has top notes of subtle mint blended with calming chamomile, middle notes of smoky hay and green herbals, and rounded out with oak and soft cinnamon. (Its a dupe for Lush’s ‘The Smell of Weather Turning’)
Ingredients: chia seed oil, jojoba oil, kukui nut oil, distilled water, grapeseed oil, vegetable glycerin, vitamin E, polysorbate-80 (emulsifier) and skin-safe fragrance oil
Price: $6 Cap: 48
Rachel’s Notes: Acetone can be so drying on your nails and skin, but using and acetone additive helps remove your polish without making your fingers turn white and scaly. This additive had a floral-ish/herbal scent to me. I used it with my lint free nail polish remover pads and nail clips and my glitter polish came right off and my nails and skin looked fresh and glowy. I washed my hands after using to clean the nail bed of any oils and my fingers had a nice scent to them still.
Lucky 13 – Lotion of Immortality Trio
Cthulhu Waits, Dreaming: Sweet Dreams of R’lyeh of eternity and death Includes notes of lavender, chamomile, vanilla sugar, and a hint of myrrh
Fear of the Unknown: Tentacles await to drag you under dark waters Includes notes of sandalwood, musk, and open waters
Necronomicon: Forbidden tome of magic, nightmares, and dreams Includes notes of leather-bound books and ancient whispers.
Beware what knowledge you may find within…
Also includes a shimmer that can be used alone or in the lotion.
Ingredients: distilled water, aloe vera, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, meadowfoam oil, stearic acid, soya oil, emulsifying wax, vegetable glycerin, palmitic acid, tocopherol, potassium sorbate, shea butter, vitamin C, citric acid, germall plus (as a preservative) and skin-safe fragrances
Weight/Packaging: 4 oz, clear plastic containers with screw on lid
Price: $11 Cap: 40
Rachel’s Notes: I love these little lotions feel. The texture is like a softened butter, it’s firm but silky to the touch and is easily smoothed into the skin. It is not greasy and doesn’t make the skin feel oily at all. It soaked in quick and left a nice subtle scent. I like how the shimmer is included separately, sometimes you feel like a little extra bling and sometimes you don’t. I’m very peculiar with scents, I don’t like musky or heavy florals, but these were very pleasing and I like them all. My personal favorite was Cthulhu Waits, Dreaming. It was a sweet and soft scent. The video below shows the shimmer alone on my hand. It’s a light shimmer and I would probably use this on my face.

Rachel’s Notes: I love a good cuticle balm! I use a balm after using a cuticle oil and I put my hands in nitrile gloves for a couple hours or overnight to give my hands a nails a super hydrating treat. This balm is a perfect consistency and not greasy at all. I think it’s perfect to use on dry cuticles after doing your nails and it won’t make your fingers look greasy. The scent is a nice calming lavender chamomile which reminded me of a nice hot tea. I keep mine in my pocket on my body and my body heat warms the balm just slightly to soften it.

Luna Wax – Wax Melt – Pink Unicorn

Ingredients: Paraffin soy wax blend, mica, fragrance oil
Weight/Packaging: 2.75 oz in a plastic bag
Price: $4.25 Cap: 50
Rachel’s Notes: As I said before, I LOVE fruity scented things and this delicious sweet wax smelled of sweet ripe melons. The melt doesn’t look like it has any shimmer at first but as it melts you see the beautiful pink shimmer swirling around. It melted easily and hardened up so I popped it out of my warmer. I did slice it in half and it didn’t want to slice easily with a knife but I managed to keep the shape of the unicorn somehow.
LynBDesigns – Wax Melt – I’m Aaron Mahnke

Rachel’s Notes: I giggled when I smelled this wax in the packaging, it smells just like my husband! He wears Speed Stick Ocean Surf. So if you like the fresh scent of men’s deodorant /cologne, this is perfect. It wasn’t an overly strong scent, but I loved how it smelled in the warmer. It filled the house with a nice clean scent that everyone in the house seemed to enjoy.
Sweet Sage Scents – Wax Melt – Gnome Home

The Soapy Chef – Scoopable Wax – Night Sky
Inspiration: Inspired by the Lyra Constellation, and the love story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The constellation is in the shape of Orpheus’s lyre(harp). Orpheus went to Hades(hell) to try to win back the love of his life. His harp music was said to stop the gods in their tracks whenever he played. The lyre was placed in the sky by Zeus as a tribute to his music. This constellation also includes the star Vega, which is one of the brightest in the sky.
Description: Enjoy a rich dark blue sparkly scoopable wax that will remind you of the night sky. It is scented with night-blooming tobacco flowers, bergamot, cedarwood, and has notes of bay leaf and fir needle. Smells like a crisp cool night. Topped with hand-cut soy and beeswax stars arranged in the shape of the Lyra constellation, that are scented with a creamy and tart lemon scent.
Ingredients: Soy Wax, paraffin wax, coconut oil, fragrance oil, beeswax, wax colorant, glitter
Weight/Packaging: 5 oz in a 4 oz plastic container with screw on lid.
Price: $8.50 Cap: None
Rachel’s Notes: I think the scoopable wax is a great idea! You can choose exactly how much you want and can add a little more to freshen up the scent later. You don’t have to try and cut or break the wax so it’s safe for the nails! The scent is hard to describe but it is different but also very pleasing. It is absolutely gorgeous to watch melt, it swirls around like a night sky in the warmer. The videos below will show you how pretty it is!
Isn’t it just mesmerizing like a night sky?
The Wax Warmer:
For those of you who liked the wax warmer I used, it’s an amazing and inexpensive one. It even doubles as a coffee cup warmer if you take the wax part off the top. I’ve decided to include the link to buy one from amazon for you guys so you can have an awesome warmer like me! You can buy it HERE!

I work for The Indie Shop so I personally know how hectic that can be but here they are every month like rock stars! So if you get a moment, take the time to thank them for all they do.
I also want to say that this is a great way for me to end 2018. When I first started doing nails, I never imagined that I would have anyone follow my nail art, let alone ask me to blog for the Indie Pickup. It has been a true honor to work with all the makers and IPU staff.
Thank you for reading my blog! These items were provided to me as press samples but the reviews are honest and my own opinion.
